Melike Şahin is a significant voice in the young Turkish music scene. She first gained international recognition as the lead singer of the band BaBa ZuLa. With her debut album “Merhem” (2021), she became a superstar.
Her second album “AKKOR” stays true to her Anatolian roots but blends nostalgia with modern sounds such as disco and psychedelia. She is celebrated for her emotional vocals as the “Queen of Melancholy,” yet breaks away from that image with funky tracks.
Şahin’s lyrics address social issues and advocate for women’s rights and marginalized communities – her art has become a voice of the women’s movement in Turkey.
“My first album was about healing, this one is about surviving,” she says. In 2024, she is going on a world tour with “AKKOR” – delivering performances that embody strength and resistance.
